The Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg region of Sevier County is one of Tennessee’s fastest-growing tourist destinations. Although more than 11 million people visit Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg each year to eat, shop and play, these residential communities retain their welcoming, small-town atmosphere.

The combined population of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg is about 9,000 with residents consisting of multigenerational local families, retirees and young families, many which are drawn to the quiet, outdoor-oriented lifestyle. This part of Tennessee is lush and naturally beautiful. The scenic Great Smoky Mountains National Park serves as the backdrop with 815-square miles of forested mountains straddling the Tennessee/North Carolina border. The park’s main entrance is in Gatlinburg, though Pigeon Forge is also considered a primary gateway.

While the National Park is certainly one of the recognized attractions of the region, it isn’t the only one. Pigeon Forge changed almost overnight with the establishment of the Dollywood Entertainment Park in the late-1980s. Since then, the entire region has benefited with further development of restaurants, accommodations and entertainment and shopping venues. Specialty shops feature arts and wares that emulate the culture of the Smokies, while outlet malls cater to the traditional shopper. Other activities available include live music, live theater, golf, hiking, horseback riding, whitewater rafting and camping. Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are located about 215 miles east of Nashville, adjacent to U.S. Route 441.
