Public education in Sevier County is provided by the Sevier County School System. Pigeon Forge has three campuses (Pigeon Forge Primary, Middle and High School), while Gatlinburg has two (Gatlinburg Pittman High School and Phi Beta Phi Elementary School). The Gatlinburg student population is about 1,000, while Pigeon Forge has about 2,100 enrolled students.
Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg has firmly established itself as family fun vacation destination. As travelers organize their trips around visits to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park or Dollywood, they also find a wealth of entertainment in the surrounding communities. Pigeon Forge’s Parkway is home to more than 40 different attractions, ranging from educational museums to bumper boat rides to helicopter tours. Various entertainment venues also host live magic, theatre, dancing and comedy. Gatlinburg features its own set of activities: Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum, Mysterious Mansion, Hollywood Star Cars Museum, the World of Illusions and much more.
Perhaps more important for the resident base is the area’s selection of shopping centers. Pigeon Forge in particular is known for its high density of outlet stores. Gatlinburg has many specialty/souvenir shops and fine art galleries.
Ultimately, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg cater to home seekers who want to live close to nature. The stunning proximity of the Smokies provides for many outdoor recreational activities. There are hundreds of miles of trails and streams to explore, plus the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park and several campgrounds and golf courses. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park itself is the most visited park in the National Parks system. Visitors enjoy the forested terrain and the many species of plants and animals that live there.
